Aavid Thermalloy's Polar CapTM heat sinks can be used to cool any type of electronics equipment from power transistors to thermoelectric modules. Impingement airflow and augmented fins enhance cooling efficiency.
Features
Impingement cooled – increased performance by 10% to 15% over conventional cooling
Augmented fins increase air turbulence and significantly lower thermal resistance
High thermal conductivity fin material increases fin efficiency
Sizes can be customized to fit application-specific designs
Customization Potential
Aavid-Thermalloy's Polar CapTM heat sinks can be customized to fit specific application needs. Possible variations include:
Changes in fin height, fin spacing, overall height, and width
Customized mounting surface and component attachment configurations
Availability of various surface finishes for corrosion protection and/or cosmetic requirements
Design Guidelines
Airflow lengths are limited to 610 mm (24") for a single piece
Fin densities up to 20 fins per inch, depending on style, material thickness, and height are available
Material can be aluminum or copper, with thickness to .2 mm (.006") possible
Folded-fin styles include lanced and offset, square crests/trough, and round crest trough
Fins can be attached to the heat dissipation surface using either epoxy or braze for aluminum; braze or solder for copper
Base material must match fin material, for consistent thermal expansion
For any holes or cutouts, fins must be EDM wire cut
